PWU and OHSU unions petition unfair executive bonuses and win!

We joined our fellow unions across OHSU in response to the recent news highlighting the shocking $12.5 million in bonuses awarded to OHSU leadership. This situation has unfolded at a time when our fellow graduate students (GRU) were explicitly told during their bargaining process that OHSU lacked the funds to provide them with a livable wage. Together with ONA (nurses) and AFSCME (328, GRU, and HOU) we launched a petition demanding OHSU leaders to reject these bonuses and demonstrate respect for their employees (see the Willamette Weekly Article)

As a postdoc union our core value is making OHSU a better place to do research. Part of this is holding our leaders accountable to OHSU’s research mission. This includes making sure postdocs are provided a fair and just workplace. By working together with other unions we received over 2000 signatures, and we are certain this convinced OHSU leaders to turn down these unfair bonuses (see the Business Journal Article). This was a remarkable demonstration of the true power of collective action!
